Parent Responsibilities

When a child is enrolled at WPELC, the family is a member of a parent cooperative preschool. All families are required to participate in the operation of the preschool by accepting the following responsibilities:

Helping Parent: Helping parents act as classroom assistants and they interact with the children to facilitate learning and play. They help the

teacher set up the classroom, supply the snack and clean the classroom after school. This is a wonderful opportunity to observe your child in the classroom while learning more about early childhood education alongside an experienced teacher. This duty occurs about once every six weeks.

Fundraising: To make it more affordable, tuition is dedicated to paying rent, insurance, teachers’ salaries and benefits. Other expenses like classroom supplies, maintenance, telephone, etc. are covered by fundraising activities, which are organized by a committee of parents. Past fundraising activities have included a garage sale and sales of items like greenery and spring plants. A minimum level of participation is set for each fundraising effort. This may also be satisfied by a set cash buy-out in lieu of participating. Families are also required to purchase $300/month in grocery certificates (King Soopers, Safeway, Vitamin Cottage and/or Sunflower Market). They are used just like cash at the store. The school receives a percentage of sales.

Additional Responsibilities:  Each family is also required to:

  • Be a member of a school committee

  • Pay tuition and submit all required health forms on time

  • Attend the Fall General Meeting (parent orientation), Spring General Meeting and two parent-teacher conferences

  • Fill out a teacher evaluation form

  • Participate in school cleanings once a year

  • Participate in annual open house

  • Help with field trips on an as-needed basis
